Oldies But Goodies

Lately I have been trying to buy less and really use up many of the beauty and skin care products I already have and it has helped me rediscover some old favorites. I picked out the ones I use the most; most of these I use on a daily basis.

It wasn’t until I started college that I bought my first palette (soooo exciting I know!!) and this was it: the Too Faced, Natural Matte Palette. I remember feeling so cool because I have finally invested (a mere $36, comparatively cheap) in a professional palette. But the best part of this palette is how natural the colors are. It accentuates your natural features and can be worn everyday. The colors are relatively pigmented, but can easily be built up for a darker effect (I have swatched my three favorite colors above). For someone starting to explore the world of makeup this is a great palette. But even now, I love having a palette I can go to day in and day out for a ‘no makeup’ makeup look.

Many people are just discover skin care now, but my mother was way ahead of the curve. From a young age she would give me tons of creams and serums to play with. As I got older I realized how amazing some of them were. One that really stuck with me was this Lancome nightime moisturizing cream. This cream is fairly expensive, but my mom had several extra pots that she kindly gifted me (aka that I stole from her cabinet!) It is deeply moisturizing and also combats wrinkles, dark spots, pigmentation and discoloration all without clogging your pours.

I don’t wear eyeliner as much as I used to, but when I do I wear Kat Von D’s Tattoo liner. This liner-omg. I cannot say enough good things about it. The pen fits so easily in your hand for ultimate control when trying to get the perfect flick. But the real magic is how pigmented it is. It really is like a tattoo, very opaque and strong enough to last the day, yet it melts right off with the right makeup remover.

Skip the Kylie Lip Kit. They are drying and over priced (though I am a guilty owner of 2 lip kits). These are the way to go. Revlon’s Ultra HD Matte LipColor is the best drugstore product I have ever bought. They dry matte, but feel more like a balm on your lips which is so nice compared to some higher end liquid lipsticks. The colors are amazing as well. They have myriad nude shades, pinks and ever some statement grays and blues. They are only about $5 and you can get them at literally any drugstore or Target.

I have been using Vaseline for years. I find that chapsticks with tons of ingredients, even Burts Bees or Nivea, work while they are on my lips but tend to dry them up once they chapstick rubs off or sinks in. Vaseline is the ultimate lip care product and I put it on ever night. They even have the cute little lip therapy ones that simply have a thicker petroleum jelly to really penetrate the thicker layers of skin on your lips. Truly a super product.

I hope you enjoyed! I am leaving for France in exactly a week so stay tuned for more amazing content here and on my instagram (@emilymw587)
