Summer Skincare Routine

The beach is my home away from home in the summer and now that I live 5 minutes away, the sea salt air and sun have taken their toll on my skin. Now that the stress of final exams is over, I have updated my skincare to keep my skin hydrated and glowing all summer long.

First, I always cleanse. In the shower my favorite body wash is the Dove gofresh  wash in the pear and aloe scent. This body wash is amazing and cleanses my body of all dirt and sweat without stripping my skin of any natural moisture. It also lathers luxuriously and smells sooooo good. Lately for my face, I have been loving the Beauty Counter’s Charcoal Cleansing Bar (available at Target). This gentle cleansing bar lifts out any impurities without over-drying your face. I have found that it works wonders on my cystic acne as well.

On days when my my skin needs an extra pick up there are two things I do to give an extra oomph. Usually I do a cooling peel mask. This calms any inflammation and removes blackheads and dirt clogging your pours.

Not picture because I ran out, is Differin Gel. This stuff is amazing. When my acne was bad my dermatologist prescribed a Retinoid which basically clears all your acne. This is the first Retinoid available without a prescription and it is perfect for those deep spots that you can’t seem to get rid of. I put it on at night when I feel a deep skin spot coming on and in the morning it is usually gone.

Once I have cleansed, I always always always moisturize. Especially in the summer this is important for two reasons: 1) the sun can strip your skin of its natural moisture and 2) the drying your skin is the more oil it will produce during the day, making your skin extra greasy; if you moisturize, the skin will soak up the lotion and won’t feel the need to produce as much oil.

My favorite body moisturizer is the St. Ives Collagen and Elastin Body Lotion. This is ultra moisturizing and perfect after a long day in the sun. It soothes any inflammation and prevents flaking and peeling. As for my face, in the morning, I use Cetaphil (above is the generic Walgreens brand because it is cheaper) lotion. This is a great day moisturizer and leave your skin plump and glowing.

At night, I use the Caudalie duo that I received as my birthday gift from Sephora. This stuff is the real deal. It consists of the Vinosource Creme Sorbet and Vinoperfect Serum Eclaire. I mix the two together (you only need a pea-sized amount of the two together) and it lifts and plumps the skin while I sleep. When I wake up I don’t look like a tired raccoon.

And that is my summer skincare routine! I hope this included helpful tips and tricks!
